Schumer/Spitzer - NY Politricksters hate smokers & love taxes
The Associated Press reports further moves by New York politricksters against your freedom to buy cigarettes as you please.
Sen. Charles Schumer has jumped on the hysteria bandwagon, claiming the U.S. Postal Service is not doing enough to halt the "illegal" shipment of cigarettes. As usual with these so-called representatives, he tosses around the term "illegal" as if this were in fact the proven legal status of cigarettes shipments and internet cigarettes sales.
But the reason these guys are pressuring shipping agencies, credit card companies, and sovereign Native Nations instead of arresting people is - because these allegedly "illegal" actions have never been proven illegal!
Posturing for the media in this early pre-election period, Schumer, joined by New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, said he will introduce legislation next week in the Senate that will impose fines of at least $1,000 per offense and possible jail time for anyone convicted of mailing cigarettes through the Postal Service.
Obviously,
any smoker who cares for his rights and any citizen who
cares for honesty, integrity, and the rapid disappearance
of civil rights in the USA should vote against these guys
and do all they can to oppose their fascistic attacks.
Schumer said his federal legislation would ban the mailing
of cigarettes and smokeless tobacco, just as liquor, firearms,
explosives are now.
Gerry McKiernan, a spokesman for the Postal Service, said
unlike the other delivery services, federal statutes govern
how items may be mailed. "If
you put a stamp on it, we have to deliver it; we have no
choice," McKiernan said. "Once you seal it, we
can't open it. The stamp seals the package against inspection
unless you have a search warrant." He declined to specifically
comment on Schumer's legislation, however, saying the USPS
attorneys would first have to review it.
