Swiss Study Says Dark Chocolate Improves Smokers' Hearts.
According to a
recent scientific study in Switzerland, a small amount of dark chocolate can
improve smokers' heart function within hours. Even better, over time it may
reduce the risk of hardening of the arteries and heart disease. Results of the
study were on Fox
News.
Researchers found that, within two hours of consuming about an ounce and a half
of dark chocolate, the artery function and platelet count of male smokers improved
significantly, protecting them for about eight hours against two of the harmful
effects of smoking.
White chocolate
had no such effects on the test subjects.
"Dark chocolate has a much higher antioxidant content per gram than do other
antioxidant-rich foods such as wine, tea, or berries," researchers explained.
"Therefore, only a small daily treat of dark chocolate may substantially increase
the amount of antioxidant intake," which in turn improves cardiovascular health.
